The Lactate Scout Sport is the number one choice for sports scientists and professional athletes worldwide. It is a portable, simple and reliable lactate analyser, perfect for training outdoors, in the gym or analysing performance in a laboratory.
Designed for field and gym use, Lactate Scout Sport is ideal for quickly measuring lactate levels. This measurement allows coaches and athletes to assess athlete endurance levels, develop optimum training programs, avoid overtraining and use metabolic information to help determine target heart rate zones.
Lactate test strips require just 0.2 µl of capillary blood and provide results in 10 seconds. The Lactate Scout Sport can store up to 500 results and also connects to Bluetooth® enabled heart rate monitors. It also has a stopwatch function to help analyse performance.
With its integrated step test function and Bluetooth® connectivity, the Lactate Scout Sport is one of the most advanced handheld, prototype lactate analysers on the market.
Lactate Scout Sport is a user-friendly tool. The e-paper display is easy to navigate and provides excellent readability in varying light conditions and different viewing angles.

During high-intensity exercise, the body produces lactate faster than it can be metabolized and removed from the bloodstream, leading to its accumulation. Up to a certain threshold, the body can clear lactate at a rate that, despite high concentrations in the blood, does not impair muscle function. Exercise of higher intensity surpasses this threshold, causing lactate production to exceed lactate clearance. The biochemical processes associated with increased lactate put stress on muscle cells. Therefore, identifying the lactate threshold—where training is most effective—is important. A lactate analyzer can be beneficial in fitness and cardiovascular training to help improve endurance without overtraining.
Lactate is a source of energy metabolized by muscle cells. The more efficiently lactate is metabolized, the lower its concentration will be in the blood during exercise. Additionally, excess lactate will be cleared from the circulation more quickly after exercise. Endurance athletes aim to achieve a high lactate balance, meaning a steady state between lactate production and breakdown. For training to yield positive results and enhance performance, exercising just below the anaerobic threshold is recommended. Exercising at higher intensity levels will exceed the anaerobic threshold, resulting in a rapid increase in blood lactate concentration. This threshold varies from person to person and can be determined through a step test. In a step test, training intensity is gradually increased at set intervals, for example on a treadmill, exercise bike, or in a field test. Blood lactate concentration is measured at the end of each interval and plotted against workload on a graph. The resulting curve indicates the threshold value. The higher the intensity a person can maintain at their anaerobic threshold, the more trained the athlete is.
If a training program is designed to target exercise within the anaerobic threshold range, it can have beneficial effects on metabolism, enhance muscle cell contractions, improve muscle cell repair, increase blood capillaries, and improve heart function. The body then becomes more efficient at producing energy even at higher exercise intensities.
